Camila's experience

Eliana's experience

We both were in the second cohort in which we  had the opportunity to work collaboratively with students from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign . Moreover, we were the first cohort that designed their WebQuests in groups due to the similarity on the topics that all our classmates and Eliana and I had, so these are our experiences:

Eliana and Camila's experiences:

My WebQuest topic: The talent show extravaganza.

Why: Because it is important for students to improve their new vocabulary, be able to speak, and increase their confidence.

Task: The students should take a scene from TV show House, M.D.  and  audition as one character in front of an audience.

The first one was to translate the concepts developed with Professor Martínez about the competences for our WebQuest. In my case, I choose to work in the proper words articulation in speaking, so I had to translate that to a task which helps students to reinforce that competence.

I worked with my classmate Mariana;  her topic was about socio-affective strategies specifically in the reduction of anxiety. So we had to combine both topics: proper articulation of words and anxiety reduction in communication, and create a task that helps students to improve their communication skills based on those two components. (Mora, Martínez, Espinal, & Múnera, under review)

I was first worried about doing the webquest because I did not know what it was about and I did not notice how the theoretical part would connect with the practical part.

I looked for information for the theoretical part about "false cognates", and I did my framework around it. But, I did not work alone; I work with my classmate Melissa and one student from the University of Illinois.

We all tried to meet via Skype and define what kind of webquest we want, and how we had to make the activities in order to combine Melissa's and my theoretical frameworks.

My WebQuest topic: Greek gods

Why: It is important that students feel free to be more creative and implement part of the language to get it. At the same time, it is importat that they feel more confidet when speaking.

Task:The students would look for myths about four specific Greek gods in order to write a play and act put as a character of their choice.
